Rating of TOP-25 purchased cars in the Russian Federation for April 2020. The list of models, statistics of falling sales, the price of cars and characteristics are brought up.

The coronavirus pandemic and quarantine have not played the best role in the sale of new cars. Many say April 2020 is a black year for automakers and dealerships. This conclusion can be drawn not only by the statistics of new car sales in Russia, but also by the rating, which has changed quite well in comparison with the rating for March or February. For a long time, the leader in the rating among the most popular SUVs in Russia was Hyundai Creta, but now the model has surrendered its position, yielding to the new Volkswagen Tiguan.

Leader of Lada Granta

Despite the drop in sales and other disadvantages, the Lada Granta model remained the unchanged leader in the rating. The first place in the most purchased car of Grant has been holding for several years; back in September 2019, the sales figure exceeded 11,200 copies. April 2020 made its own changes, the drop in sales compared to April 2019 (12652 cars) was 75.8%. In total, 3058 cars of this model were sold in April 2020.

The new Grant is presented to the buyer in the sedan, liftback, hatchback, station wagon, Cross and Drive Active bodies, as well as the training version. Under the hood there can be a 1.6-liter gasoline engine of different power. In a pair, a mechanical or automatic transmission is installed. At a price, the basic version of Lada Granta starts at 387,000 rubles, which is cheaper compared to the same period in 2019.

Lada Vesta - second place

Lada Vesta also remained the unchanged leader of the second place. The fall in sales of this model is slightly less and amounts to 71.2% compared to the same period last year. In total, in the second month of spring 2020, 2,913 cars of this model were sold. The model did not receive new modifications or any modifications.

As before, the buyer can choose between the sedan, Cross version, SW, SW Cross, CNG or Sport.

Unlike the leader of the rating, a 1.6 or 1.8 liter gasoline engine can be hidden under the hood of Lada Vesta. The unit is paired with a 5-speed manual, 4 or 5-speed automatic transmission. The starting price of the Lada Vesta sedan according to available data starts from 539,910 rubles.

Kia Rio in the top three

The compact car Kia Rio closes the top three in the rating of the most bought cars in Russia. As before, the model is available in sedan and X-Line hatchbacks. In April 2020, 1,737 cars were sold, which is 79.6% less than last year's data.

Under the hood of the sedan, the manufacturer installs a 1.4-liter MPI petrol engine. Most of the trim levels received a manual transmission, and only the top-end version got an automatic transmission. The price of the novelty is also relatively small, the Kia Rio sedan will cost from 646,110 rubles, and the Rio X-Line version from 767,610 rubles.

Compact Volkswagen Polo

The Volkswagen Polo continues the rating, while it has not yet been specified in which body the car is most bought in Russia. Also, dealerships did not clarify information regarding the generation, because a new liftback is now on sale, as well as a well-known sedan before the update. The starting price of the new Volkswagen Polo liftback starts from 792,900 rubles, and the old version of the Polo sedan starts from 798,900 rubles. In total, 1,372 cars were sold last month, which is 75.8% less.

Under the hood of the new liftback, two units are offered, with a volume of 1.6 and 1.4 liters. Depending on the selected engine and modification, a 5-speed manual or a 6, 7-speed automatic can be coupled to the engine. Unlike the liftback, the Volkswagen Polo sedan is available only with a 1.6-liter MPI petrol engine. A pair of 5-speed mechanics or 6-speed automatic transmission is installed.

Popular Volkswagen Tiguan

For a long time, the most popular car in the SUV segment in Russia was the Hyundai Creta. The model kept its leadership position in every possible way due to the price and characteristics, but now the Volkswagen Tiguan has become the most popular, moving the leader to the 3rd position among SUVs. Sales of the new crossover decreased by 53.2%, in total, dealerships sold 1,332 copies of the crossover. The new Tiguan is offered in two trim levels (Trendline and Exclusive).

Under the hood of the crossover, a TSI gasoline engine with a volume of 1.4 or 2.0 liters, or a diesel unit with a volume of 2.0 liters, is installed. Depending on the configuration and modification, 6 manual transmissions, 6 automatic transmissions or 7 automatic transmissions with two clutches can be installed in tandem with the unit. Likewise, the crossover drive can only be front or full. The starting price of the Volkswagen Tiguan starts at 1,619,000 rubles.

Modern van Lada Largus

The sixth position was taken to the Lada Largus van. The buyer can choose both a station wagon and a van for commercial purposes. Versions Cross, Cross CNG are also available, where, in addition to gasoline, there is a factory gas installation. The drop in sales of this model was 64.7% (1286 cars were sold).

The choice in terms of technical characteristics is not great, a gasoline engine with a volume of 1.6 liters and a mechanical five-stage. According to the manufacturer's website, a regular Largus station wagon in the basic configuration will cost from 524,000 rubles.

SUV Lada 4 × 4

Another result of the quarantine was the popularity of the domestic Lada 4 × 4 SUV, which also surpassed the Hyundai Creta in the ranking. According to available statistics, dealerships were able to sell 1,093 cars in April, which is 58.9% less than the same period last year. So that the manufacturer does not declare its desire to modify or change this car, the model has remained in its classic form and without any special innovations.

As before, the Lada 4 × 4 SUV is available in a body with 3 or 5 doors, in a classic or tuned form. The usual 1.7-liter gasoline engine and manual transmission are hidden under the hood. The drive, as a rule, is plug-in full. The starting price of the simplest configuration starts at 510,210 rubles, but the top version will cost from 722,000 rubles.

Crossover Hyundai Creta

It's hard to say how long the Hyundai Creta crossover has held the leading positions in various ratings, but for a long time it has been the most popular in the SUV segment. Still, the quarantine spoiled the plans. Now the model has taken the 8th place among the most bought cars in Russia and the 3rd among the most popular SUVs in the Russian Federation. In April 2020, 1,079 cars of this model were sold in Russia, which is 82.4% less than last year's statistics.

The updated Hyundai Creta in the Russian Federation is offered with a gasoline unit with a volume of 1.6 or 2.0 liters. In tandem, a 6-speed manual or automatic can go. A similar situation with the drive, the buyer is offered only front-wheel drive or full 4WD. As for the price of the updated Hyundai Creta, the start starts at 975,000 rubles.

Renewed Renault Duster

The ninth position in the ranking of cars was taken by the Renault Duster crossover. According to the rating, in April dealerships were able to sell only 975 cars, which is 73.1% more than last year. As before, the choice of crossover characteristics is not small. The buyer was offered a choice of two gasoline engines with a volume of 1.6 and 2.0 liters, as well as a diesel engine with a volume of 1.5 liters.

Depending on the modification, the new Renault Duster can be equipped with a mechanical 5 or 6-speed transmission, as well as a 4-speed automatic. Most versions have full drive, although there are front-wheel drive options. The basic configuration of Renault Duster will cost from 777,000 rubles, but the top-end version from 1,200,000 rubles.

New Skoda Octavia

Skoda Octavia closes the top ten most bought cars in Russia. On the Russian market, the model is available in sedan and station wagon bodies, as well as in a charged sedan version. Despite the fact that there is already a new generation, on the territory of Russia they still offer an old version of the car, where the optics are divided in front. In the second month of spring, only 820 cars of this model were sold, and the sales fell by 59.8%.

A 1.4-liter, 1.6 or 1.8-liter gasoline engine is installed under the hood of the car. There is no less variety among transmissions, a choice is offered: 5 or 6 manual transmissions, 6 automatic transmissions or 7 DSG. The starting price of the base Skoda Octavia is 1,140,000 rubles.

Having considered the top 10 of the rating of the most bought cars in Russia, we can say that the Hyundai Creta model suffered the most losses in sales, and the Volkswagen Tiguan, least of all. Below is a list of the remaining 15 car models, which are also included in the list of the most bought in Russia.

It can be seen that all car manufacturers, without exception, showed negative car sales statistics for April 2020. Most likely, such a rating will hold out in May, as only some people decide to make such purchases, and it is not so easy to register a car when everything is closed. If we talk about the rating of TOP-25 purchased cars, then most of all losses in sales fell on Hyundai Solaris - minus 88.4%. The best were the sales of the Volkswagen Tiguan - minus 53.2%.
