For the first time, the compact crossover model ASX was presented by Mitsubishi at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, while the Concept-cX concept, which debuted in 2007, became the prototype for the creation of the crossover.
In 2015, in Los Angeles, the company officially demonstrated the second generation of the ASX compact crossover, which received a more modern and aggressive exterior, a number of interior improvements and technical characteristics. Representatives of the auto concern do not hide that they have high hopes for the car, which is very popular among European and domestic buyers.
Note that the updated Mitsubishi ASX is almost an ideal car for the city, in which you can safely drive on a broken country road and light off-road, but first things first.
Exterior of the new Mitsubishi ASX
It should be noted right away that Japanese designers decided to preserve the stylistic features of its predecessor, however, this did not prevent the crossover from acquiring a number of new solutions and elements that made the ASX look more stylish, modern and aggressive.
The car received a completely new false radiator grille, made in the X-shaped style, new optics of the head light, as well as a new bumper, in which two "eyes" of the fog lights are traditionally built.
The profile of the car has remained practically unchanged, there is still the original stamping, passing through the side doors from the middle of the front wheel arches, which, by the way, have become less muscular, which added some elegance to the car.
The stern of the crossover has acquired "evil" side lights and a monumental bumper, under which the exhaust pipe is located. Despite the fact that the changes are not significant, the car's sirloin looks stylish, sporty and modern.
The crossover is capable of boasting a good ground clearance of 195 mm, which allows you to confidently storm the curbs and drive out of town without fear, where the quality of the roadway either leaves much to be desired or does not exist at all.
The dimensions of the Mitsubishi ASX remained unchanged and are:

- Width - 1770 mm;
- Height - 1625 mm;
- Wheelbase equal to 2670 mm.
When looking at the second generation ASX, echoes of the older Outlander model, which have also recently undergone a number of visual and technical updates, are inadvertently caught.
The interior of the ASX crossover
The exterior design of the interior of the second generation ASX has practically not undergone any changes. Before us is the same dashboard with two "wells" of instrument clusters, a discreet front console, familiar knobs for climate control and an infotainment system, which can be represented by a conventional audio recorder or a large touchscreen display.
The steering wheel, as before, is equipped with control buttons for the on-board computer and the car's audio system. The ergonomics of the driver's seat are great - all buttons, switches and levers are where you expect them to be.
The front row seats provide a comfortable fit, while they are not distinguished by the presence of excessive lateral support and a large abundance of adjustments - there are enough of them, but no more. The rear seats, although they are capable of accommodating three adult passengers, are really comfortable here only for two. At the same time, it is possible to adjust the level of the backrest tilt, which is especially useful for long trips.
Despite the fact that the salon did not receive new stylistic solutions, the company significantly revised the quality of finishing materials, which became at least a cut higher than that of its predecessor. The quality of fit of parts has also improved, which previously raised some questions.
The volume of the trunk is directly proportional to the position of the backs of the second row seats and can vary between 129-384 liters. It is possible to increase the trunk volume to 1219 liters by folding the backrests of the second row. In the underground luggage compartment, depending on the version of the car, there may be a full-fledged spare wheel or stowaway.

In terms of technical equipment, the second generation Mitsubishi ASX is no different from its predecessor. For the North American market, the car is offered with two power plants - 2 and 2.4-liter gasoline, producing 148 and 168 "horses", respectively.
In the Russian market, the model is offered with three engines, with a volume of 1.6 to 2 liters, and a capacity of 117 to 150 hp.
Customers can choose from both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive modification, which can be aggregated with a 5-band "mechanics" or a modern stepless variator. In the future, the emergence of a modern 8-level "automatic" is not excluded, which will somewhat revive the dynamic characteristics of the car.
Depending on the engine power, acceleration from 0 to 100 can vary within 11.4-13.1 seconds. Despite the relatively "middle-aged" engines, fuel consumption is within reasonable limits - about 6-7.5 l / 100 km, while the 2-liter engine is quite capable of "digesting" AI-92 gasoline, while 1.6 and a 1.8-liter petrol engine is recommended to be "fed" exclusively with AI-95 petrol. The maximum speed to which the crossover can accelerate is 188 km / h.
The crossover is based on the GS bogie, which assumes the presence of McPherson struts in the front and multi-link in the back. The suspension of the car is moderately stiff, which provides excellent handling at high speeds and allows you to confidently cope with large irregularities - breakdowns are practically excluded, while small irregularities are well felt in the cabin and are transmitted to passengers' points.
From the point of view of the technical component, the updated Mitsubishi ASX can be safely attributed to the class leaders, while the car has a rich configuration, a wide list of optional equipment and an acceptable cost.
Safety
Like its predecessor, the second generation of the crossover received a maximum 5 stars when passing the Euro NCAP crash tests, while the safety indicators in frontal impact were among the highest in the class. All this became possible due to the presence of the following active and passive safety systems:
- Exchange rate stability system;
- Active traction control system;
- ABS and EBD systems;
- Driver assistance system for emergency braking;
- Regenerative braking system;
- Seven airbags, including knee airbags;
- Signature RISE body structure, providing high torsional rigidity of the body;
- Slope start assistant;
- Modern seat belts with pretensioners and ISOFIX child seat anchorages.
In general, the car is quite capable of claiming the title of a family car, which is distinguished by excellent handling, as well as a high level of protection for passengers in the front and, most importantly, the second row of seats, where children are often transported.

The level of vehicle trim levels offered by Mitsubishi management is at a fairly high level. Even in the basic version, the buyer receives a complete package of the minimum necessary equipment for a comfortable stay in the crossover cabin. So, the standard equipment level includes:
- 1.6-liter engine (117 hp);
- Front-wheel drive with manual 5-level gearbox;
- Air conditioning;
- Electric side mirrors with heating system;
- Two front airbags;
- Full power accessories;
- Multi-channel ABS system;

The company does not hide the fact that in the near future the list of standard equipment may be slightly revised and expanded, which will allow the car to become one of the best offers in its class in terms of equipment-cost, which starts at 920 thousand rubles. (about 15 thousand dollars). It is worth noting that if it were not for the dollar exchange rate, then the minimum price of the second generation of the crossover would have remained practically the same and amounted to just over 850 thousand rubles.
The maximum price, with all the available options, easily surpasses the mark of 19 thousand dollars (1.25 million rubles), which, despite the considerable cost, also looks like a good investment, since most competitors offer more meager equipment for comparable money.
The second generation Mitsubishi ASX, although it did not receive significant innovations in terms of exterior design and technical characteristics, acquired more solid finishing materials and a higher quality fit of parts, which made it possible to raise the perception of the car to a higher level. In general, the crossover ideally combines a roomy interior, high cross-country ability and stylish and modern design, as well as has moderate fuel consumption and an acceptable price.
