For the first time, the "large" version of the Fiat 500L was shown by Italians in 2012 at the annual motor show in Geneva, where the car attracted the attention of not only ordinary people, but also famous automotive journalists. In the face of the novelty, the manufacturer managed to achieve the perfect compromise between style and practicality, which made it possible to turn the Fiat 500L into a real family minivan.
In subsequent years, the model underwent minor updates and even received several additional modifications - an all-terrain Trekking and an extended Living.
In 2017, Fiat management revamped the model again, resulting in a number of visual differences, an improved interior and over 40% new parts.
In addition, it was decided to change the names of the Trekking and Living versions, which are now referred to as Cross and Wagon, respectively. Today in our review we will talk about the off-road version of the Fiat 500L Cross, which, despite the presence of front-wheel drive, fits well into the definition of a compact SUV.

It is worth mentioning right away that the appearance of the Fiat 500L Cross has undergone minor changes in comparison with the previous Fiat 500L Trekking, thanks to which the car retained the corporate family features that do not allow it to be confused with the solutions of competitors.
"Muzzle" Cross-version flaunts large oval headlights of head optics, LED round DRLs, a new false radiator grille (optionally with chrome inserts) and a massive front bumper with a large air intake, optional foglights and additional air intakes.
Vehicle profile It stands out for its inflated wheel arches, a plastic body kit, an increased glazing area, as well as embossed sidewalls and protective linings on the side doors.
All-terrain van feed received an updated rear bumper with plastic protection and built-in fog lights, and also retained the stylish side lights and a fairly massive tailgate, in the upper part of which there is a small spoiler with an additional brake light.

Like the exterior, the interior design has gone without major changes. The manufacturer paid the main attention to the quality of finishing materials, which became a cut higher than that of its predecessor.

Front seats have a well-thought-out profile, high-quality upholstery and a sufficient range of adjustments that allow a person of any height and build to sit comfortably. Between the seats of the first row, a small but comfortable armrest was registered, as well as a gearshift lever and a mechanical parking brake (replacing the uncomfortable "paws" of the parking brake installed on the predecessor).Rear sofa also has a well-thought-out layout and is able to accommodate three adult riders, including an adjustable backrest and separate air vents.
Trunk volume in the standard cabin layout is 455 liters, but if the backrests of the rear seats are lowered, the user can count on 1480 liters of cargo space.
A nice addition is the presence of a spare wheel and a repair kit hidden in the luggage compartment underground.

Despite the high power (in comparison with the base 95-horsepower gasoline engine), the car's appetite fluctuates between 4.8-5 liters per hundred.
- Turbocharged diesel engine MultiJet II with a volume of 1.3 and 1.6 liters and a capacity of 95 and 120 hp. respectively. With them, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 in 16.1 (15) seconds. and allows you to develop a maximum 165 (190) km / h, consuming an average of about 4.7 liters for every 100 km of track.
Note that in some markets the car can be equipped with a 1.4-liter TJet engine running on LPG or a 0.9-liter TwinAir engine powered by methane.
Depending on the type and power of the power plant, a pair of it can be 5 or 6-speed "mechanics" or a modern "robot" Dualogic. Despite the prefix in the name "Cross", the car is supplied exclusively with front axle drive.
The novelty is based on a budget "trolley" assuming the installation of an independent front suspension with MacPherson struts, as well as a rear semi-independent suspension with a split torsion beam. In comparison with the usual Fiat 500L, the “Cross” version received an additional operating mode for the control electronics - Gravity Control, which in its essence is an analogue of the assistance system when descending a hill.
Pseudo-crossover braking system represented by front ventilated "pancakes" and conventional discs at the rear, and the steering is complemented by an electric amplifier, with a choice between two modes of operation.
