What is happening now in the "fastest cars" club can be compared to the battle of the titans. Any result can be beaten - this is the law of competitive sports. New champions regularly enter the arena. Record hunters are fighting a fierce battle for tenths and hundredths of a second, including the brainchild of the brilliant German automaker Mercedes-Benz.

Traditionally, the basis for the right to wear the crown of the winner is the speed with which supercars rush to the finish line. Let's take a look at a few of the fastest Mercedes - both serial and tuner-tuned.

Drag racer CLK 63 from Mercedes-AMG and Weistec Tuning

Weistec Engineering is well known in the tuning world. Its craftsmen have earned an excellent reputation for serving customers from gentle to tough, but the priority is maximum productivity. The CLK 63 AMG Black Series built with them goes far beyond what is possible.

The engine bay of this turbo monster is pure gold for the eyes of the car enthusiast. The heart of the Weistec CLK 63 Black Series is a 6.2-liter V8 with 837 hp from the M156 engine family, ventilated by two huge turbines. Even without major upgrades, it is capable of generating 769 PS and over 900 Newton-meters of torque, but “2000 HP + can be achieved with a great unit with enormous potential,” says Mike Weiss, President of Weistec Engineering.

As you can see from the car, it is not designed for driving on normal roads. It's a hot track Benz with lightning-fast acceleration.

As big fans of drag racing, we wanted to bring something special to the idea. And we believe we have achieved our goal by presenting the Mercedes-Benz CLK63 Black Series as the perfect combination of what we love and what you can do with a car.

- explains the project manager Mike Weiss.

Best of all, the talents of this model are revealed in a straight run for a short distance. The time it takes for her to march a quarter mile (402.34 m) is not so short - about 10 seconds. However, already in the middle of the distance, she is able to catch up with the fleeing rivals.

When the Mercedes CLK 63 AMG crossed the finish line at the Speedway Summer Race in Pomona, California, the gauges recorded a speed of 144.61 mph, or 231.75 km / h. The old 142 mph record set for the top speed of a Mercedes SLR from the American tuning agency Renntech is history. This is probably why the Weistec CLK 63 AMG got the nickname "Messerschmitt" (named after the Messerschmitt Me 262 - the first jet-powered combat aircraft (1942)).

Mercedes-AMG GT 73 e

The rivalry between Porsche and Mercedes is heating up. AMG wants to break the record set at the Nurburgring with the restyled Porsche Panamera Turbo S, which covered 20.832 km in 7:29.81 minutes.

Just a day after Porsche announced how fast its new top model is, the AMG team posted the following comment on their Facebook page:

Just 2 years ago, an AMG development engineer drove the Nürburgring North loop in a production GT 63 S 4MATIC + coupe in unfavorable conditions in an incredible time of 7:30, 109 minutes. Our record lap was the best in its class. It's time to hit the road again.

Mercedes will try to outflank Porsche with the new plug-in hybrid GT 73 e. It promises to surpass the GT 63 S with 639bhp while developing 800bhp. from a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine and accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just 3.2 seconds.

Since the new Plug-in Hybrid AMG GT73 will have 170 hp. more than the Panamera Turbo S, the chances of winning are high. If the 639-horsepower GT was just 0.3 seconds weaker, then the 800-horsepower 73e should definitely beat the Porsche.

Late last year, AMG Team released a teaser showing the GT 73 prototype drifting away from the camera, and in March 2020 the nearly finished model was caught in trials in Northern Europe.

When placed next to its sibling, the AMG GT 63, the differences are difficult to notice. The same large Panamericana radiator grille with vertical sipes, the same huge air intakes. The rear bumper has been slightly redesigned to match the charging port located just below the left tail light. This detail, along with the lack of charging in the front or rear fenders, as in most hybrids, will be one of the few distinguishing features of this model.

And further: Since this Plug-In Hybrid is specifically designed to compete directly with the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo, it will not be featured in the regular Mercedes range, but only in the AMG special GT series. It is expected to become available by the end of this year.

Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series

This is also a serious dragster that is difficult to keep track of. Flying at full speed through the Benz was seen on an extensive test drive at the Nurburgring. Camouflage decals barely conceal the final look of the race car. Incidentally, its V8 engine is said to produce over 700bhp.

When will the AMG GT R Black Series premiere and start production? The curtain was raised over our black star at the 2020 Chengdu Auto Show, China, and production is scheduled for 2021.

Another version of the flagship sports car is called the "GT R Pro". This is a limited edition, more focused on racing entertainment. Most track lovers will spot the differences at a glance: the Pro has been significantly tweaked not only to the insides, but also to the silhouette of the original GT R. It features a massive front splitter and bumper at the front, and new fenders at the rear. Specific wheels, side vents, diffuser, and a host of other carbon fiber parts confirm the car's purpose.

But the GT R Pro is more than just a trendy (and functional!) Body kit. It has received many other updates that are hard to see. These include redesigned coilovers and carbon ceramic brakes, dynamic engine / transmission mounts and other enhancements.

The GT R Pro still uses the same powertrain as the standard car - a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that puts out 577 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 3. 5 seconds and accelerate to almost 320 km / h.

Mercedes-AMG declares that all changes made to the GTR Pro are functional. Confirming this, the testers drove the prototype through the Nurburgring Nordschleife with an impressive 7: 04.63 lap time, despite far from ideal weather conditions. That's 6 seconds faster than the "regular" GT R (7: 10.92 on the Green Hell).

While no definitive performance numbers are available yet, the new 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro should be as impressive as the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Ferrari 488 GTB and McLaren 720S.

Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabrio from Brabus

If you think that Mercedes have become too sedate and conservative, take a look at the hyper-versions, sprinkled with BRABUS magic dust. These machines are of stunning beauty and strength.

One of the latest creations is the Brabus Cabrio Biturbo 6.0, the fastest and most powerful Mercedes cabriolet based on the Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabriolet. It is distinguished from the prototype by many carbon fiber details, including pure carbon body kits with a high-gloss finish, as well as special side skirts, a rear diffuser and forged 21-22-inch Brabus Monoblock G "Platinum Edition" alloy wheels.

The lowering module is specially calibrated for the use of ultra low profile tires. It lowers the ground clearance of a 2 + 2-seater open-top vehicle by approximately 15 millimeters (0.6 inches).

The designers have done an amazing job, not going crazy, but showing that this is a special Mercedes. Engineers and mechanics also tried: they rebuilt the engine and increased its displacement from 5461 to 5912 cc, strengthened the crankshaft, cylinder heads, pistons and connecting rods, used larger turbochargers and a modified exhaust system. The latter is equipped with special catalytic converters and stainless steel pipes, complete with throttle valves, electronically controlled from the cab to amplify the sound. When the valves are open, the twin-turbo V8 sounds as sporty as a track sports car.

Powered by a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V8 capable of up to 625 kW / 850 hp.and 1,450 Nm of torque compared to the 577 horsepower / 664 Nm of the standard model. As expected, this increase helped the car move slightly faster and made it the fastest and most powerful four-seater convertible in the world.

Peak power is reached at 5400 rpm and maximum torque is between 2500 and 4500 rpm (in order to increase the durability of the entire drivetrain, it was limited to 1150 Nm (848 lb-ft)). Power is transmitted to the wheels by the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h (62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds, and from 0 to 200 km / h (124 mph) - in 9.4 seconds. Due to the risk of tire collapse, the top speed is electronically limited to 350 km / h (217 mph). The world premiere of the unique supercar took place in Le Mans at the popular 24 Hours of Le Mans racing event.

Mercedes C 63 AMG Coupe by GAD Motors

The relatively young tuner GAD Motors has been working for 10 years in Germany and mainly modifies AMG Mercedes models, as well as Aston Martin DB11 and Lamborghini Urus. He also worked on the C 63 coupe, providing it with a specifically tuned V8 (M157) turbocharged 1200 hp. and by redirecting energy to all four wheels to cope with the enormous torque.

GAD used a larger turbine, tweaked pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft, toughened up the transmission and ceramic brakes, installed new software and much more. The result is the world's most powerful and fastest C63.

The former Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe (W204) used a naturally aspirated M156 engine (6.2-liter V8) developing 517 hp. at 6800 rpm and 630 Nm at 5500 rpm in the most powerful version of the C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series, and the power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 7-speed 7G-Tronic AMG Speedshift.

Mercedes planned to produce 650 units, but after successful sales increased the number to 800 units. There are other options as well. Even for the "regular" Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe of the current generation, 5 tuning steps are available, and the 5th offers a maximum power of 850 hp. compared to the "serial" 510 hp.

Conclusion

Nothing in the world of science and technology stands still, and the automotive industry has always been at the forefront when it comes to technological advancements, novelty of approach and daring ideas. Today's cars are striking in performance and innovation that knows no boundaries.

German car companies are still in the lead and it would be a mistake to ignore their proposals, especially Mercedes-Benz products.

Whether you are a hypercar collector, a fanatic racer, or just want to keep abreast of new products, you should not ignore the proud beauties with a three-pointed star on the hood - in many ways they remain the best in the world. The current portfolio of the prestigious manufacturer has many amazing models with insane power and torque, and in 2021 there will be a few more impressive cars entering the ring.
